Search (formerly Locator)

  • Search is an enterprise search engine

    • An enterprise search engine is a search engine typically used by an organization to make data stored within the organization searchable for their staff and/or clients. This is different from for instance an Internet search engine used to search for information on the Internet.

  • Search has a large number of enterprise connectors

    • A connector is a software component that specializes in retrieving data from a specific type of a data source. For instance, an Exchange connector is a connector used to retrieve emails from Exchange email servers. See Enterprise Connectors for more information.

  • Search can handle a large number of data formats

    • Search uses converters to transform data from the data’s original format (for instance a pdf or a word document) to pure text before processing the data further.

  • Search is made up of the Search and the Search UI

  • Search opens result in the source application

    • Most search results are opened in the brower, but some search result like from Outlook require the Content Handler installed on the PC.
