Agent - Uploading Files

Agent does not keep your data forever. Inactive files may be removed after a certain time since their upload or last use in a chat. See Agent - Data retention limits for details.

Agent is not a cloud storage solution. Uploaded files cannot be downloaded, they can only be used as context for the AI chat tool.

Using the Agent to ask questions related to contents of a provided document (or set of documents) is one of the most common use cases. To facilitate this, users can upload files to Agent in multiple ways.

In the chat session

  • Click the Upload new files button in the Resources sidebar to open a file selection dialog.

  • Drag and drop documents into the Resources sidebar

  • If the file you want to use is an image, and the selected AI model supports them, you can drag and drop the image into the chat input

  • If you intend to use the analyze action (cf Agent - Advanced Data Analysis), click the + icon in the bottom left of the chat input to attach a file for analysis

In the Files screen

  • Drag and drop documents into the Files screen OR

  • Click the Upload button on the upper right corner of the Files screen to open a file selection dialog.

From Search (if using Agent integration in Search)

  • Select the documents using their checkboxes (visible upon hovering on the upper left of the search result) and then clicking the Send to Agent button above the results pane.

    • In the List View, the checkbox in the table’s header row will select or deselect all items.

Please note that after the files are uploaded, Agent will need to process them before you can use them in chat. The processing time will depend on the size of the document. Images, unless very large, are usually near-instant.
