For which documents does Locator provide the preview feature?

To extract text from rich text documents (e.g. .docx, .pdf), Locator utilizes Document Filters from Perceptive Software.  Perceptive Document Filters also support preview images for file types/formats listed in the Perceptive Document Filters Supported Formats document. However, Locator provides the preview feature for a subset of these document types/formats. Furthermore, Locator will generate a preview for documents only if they are from a File Server, SharePoint, or an Exchange connection. 

Locator will not generate a preview for documents contained in archives (zip, jar, war, rar) nor for images embedded within email messages. By default, previews will be generated for the first 99 pages for files under 10MB. Previews can be expanded to a new tab by clicking the  icon in the preview window. The full size preview is an image of the actual document and cannot be edited.

With future Locator releases, additional file types/formats and connectors will be tested, and if acceptable, will be added to the following preview support list:
