Supported Domino Versions

  • We support both Domino 8 and 9 platforms, using the latest available Domino clients for the respective major versions.
  • The connector uses an API based on version 8 of the Notes client. Thus, version 8 or higher is required to be installed on the Locator server.
  • It is also important to install the latest minor version (with all patches included) of the Notes client.  For example, use the 8.5.3 Notes Client and not 8.5.1.

Limitations

Prerequisites

  • A license for the Domino Connector.
  • The ayfie LocatorS erver can index an IBM Domino server that is running within the same LAN as the Locator server.
  • An index user with read permission to the targeted domino database.
  • And index user with read permission to the DocuShare file share.

Installing the Notes Client

Before running the Domino Connection Wizard, the Notes client must be installed on the Locator server. The connector uses an API based on version 8 of the Notes client. Thus, version 8 or higher is required to be installed on the Locator server. It is also important to install the latest minor version (with all patches included) of the Notes client.  For example, use the 8.5.3 Notes Client and not 8.5.1.

During installation of the Notes client, use the "Install this application: Only for me (Single User Install)" option. The Notes Debugger tool should also be disabled by adding the following line to the end of the "notes.ini" file: 

APIDeveloper=1

The Debugger processes should then be closed from the Task Manager: nsd.exe, notesmm.exe


Establishing access for the "index user"

To index the content from a Domino Server do the following:

  1. Create a dedicated Domino user account. This will be referred to as the "index user" and will be used to index the data content.  An existing account may be used, but often it is easier to control the settings with a dedicated user.
  2. Grant a minimum of READ access for the targeted databases.

Note:  The setup Wizard requires the user account details during configuration. So, make sure that both the user account and the access rights are working before running the Wizard. Set “Password never expires” for the account. Otherwise, the indexing will be blocked after the expiration date. Also note that the Notes client must be installed on the Locator server prior to running the wizard. See installation notes for more information. Be careful that the “Install for everyone” is NOT checked during installation. Also the Notes client must have been run once prior to setting up the connection. That way a Notes user ID file is associated with the installation.
