License compatibility

If you are upgrading from a previous ViaWorks 2.x release, your ViaWorks 2.x license will continue to work.  If you are installing ViaWorks 2.6 for the first time, or if you are upgrading from ViaWorks 1.5.x, you will be required to obtain a new license key from VirtualWorks.  Contact your VirtualWorks sales representative to obtain your license key.



New Installations

Download the ViaWorks Installation package, and run ViaWorks_2.6.283.exe.  Use a valid License Code and follow instructions on the screen.

Upgrading from a Prior Installation

You can upgrade to this release from a previous ViaWorks 2.x release.

You CANNOT upgrade to this release from ViaWorks 1.5.x or earlier.


New Features & Improvements

ViaWorks 2.6.283 is a new product release.  It contains the following functional enhancements and various bug fixes.

ViaWorks Installation: Microsoft SQL Server support

  • In addition to the default PostgreSQL database for storing its data, ViaWorks now supports Microsoft SQL Server 2012.
  • Microsoft SQL Server can be installed on a dedicated server, separate from the ViaWorks server.
User Interface: Search Results page
  • The Hover Panel layout has improved to now display the Preview, Details, and Raw Text in separate tabs.
  • Pictures inside PowerPoint files are now converted.
  • Optimized SharePoint Connector Title/Name Parsing for PowerPoint files.
  • Ability to search for keywords in Exchange email attachments.
  • Identifying more missing file extensions.
  • Contact Groups now display all members.
  • Contact search results now show full names.
  • Able to search for archived files by title
  • There are some changes for administrators to customize the search results
Search Scopes
  • ViaWorks will now prevent you from creating Scopes with duplicate names.
  • Added the ability to filter by connector and not only by data source
