License compatibility

If you are upgrading from a previous ViaWorks 2.x release, your ViaWorks 2.x license will continue to work.  If you are installing ViaWorks 2.5 for the first time, or if you are upgrading from ViaWorks 1.5.x, you will be required to obtain a new license key from VirtualWorks.  Contact your VirtualWorks sales representative to obtain your license key.



New Installations

Download the ViaWorks Installation package, and run ViaWorks_2.5.9291.exe.  Use a valid License Code and follow instructions on the screen.

Upgrading from a Prior Installation

You can upgrade to this release from a previous ViaWorks 2.x release.

You CANNOT upgrade to this release from ViaWorks 1.5.x or earlier.


Bug Fixes & Improvements

ViaWorks 2.5.9291 is a new product release and contains the following new features and improvements:

User Interface

  • Web Client
    • Home Page
      • Updated login screen and added:
        • “My Most Recently Accessed Files”
          • Displays last 10 documents opened or downloaded by the user
        • “My Most Accessed Files”
          • * Displays the most accessed files by the user sorted by most accessed on top
        • “My Favorites”
          • Displays the list of documents specified as favorites by the user. 
          • A document can be specified as a favorite by clicking the yellow star icon on the document hit card. 
          • The ViaWorks homepage displays the first 10 favorites. 
          • The entire list of favorites can be viewed by selecting the Favorites search profile. 
          • If a favorite document is returns in a search query, it will appear at the top of the results list.
      • Profiles have been replaced with Advanced Filters (default ALL)
  • Home Page & Search Results Page
    • Account & Settings (document icon) at top right replaces the person icon to logout and to get help, and the tools/gears icon for settings
  • Search Results Page
    • Advanced filters replaces profiles and bookmarks
    • Refiners now allow multiple selections
    •  New filter window for each refiner to search and sort Refiner lists
    •  Search refiner custom date range moved to filter window
    •  Shortcut to create a new Advanced Filter using the current query and selected refiners
    •  Missing Source Credentials no longer appear at the top of the results
    •  An alert notification will be displayed over the settings menu icon
    •  Promoted results at top of search results page (configured by Admin)
      • Promoted Results are documents that appear highlighted at the top of the search results list when a user searches for specific terms. 
      • The list of Promoted Results is configured by an administrator in the ViaWorks Dashboard.
    • Sort Order control added on left: Sort results by Most Relevant or Last Modified
    •  Improved Preview support: Larger, zoom in/out, go to page #, rotate doc/image
    •  Detailed vs List view moved to left side of screen above refiners
    •  Click Star icon on search result to add/remove to favorites
    •  Auto run-search-again after making refiner change (delayed to allow multiple selections)
  • Management Console
    • Search Profiles section removed
    • Search & Index renamed to Advanced Filters and links to Dashboard Configuration page
  • Dashboard
    • SharePoint Change Set runs are now displayed in their own table
    • Change Set Add/Updates/Deletes are now included in the Connector Analytics table
    •  Improved date refinement on analytics graphs
    • New control on Repository Monitor to specify the Estimated Time Remaining interval (how much data is used in the calculation). Default 30 minutes.
    • New Configuration page, used for configuring Advanced Filters and Promoted Results. (Ignore Search Context, not a feature for 2.5)

  • Mobile Apps
    • You can now access ViaWorks using apps specifically written for your mobile devices:
      • Android
      • iOS
  • Mac Document Handler
    • A Document Handler is now available for users accessing ViaWorks from their Macintosh computers
  • Outlook Search Integration
    • The ViaWorks search bar can be integrated into Outlook Live, or Office 365 Outlook
    •  When reading email, search by:
      • Email subject
      • Sender
      •  User created search string
    • When creating email:
      • Select document to attach to the email
      • User created search string
  • Improved SharePoint Connector - Web Application Indexing
    • The setting "Index all "Site Collections" on this server" is available for on premise SharePoint 2013 deployments.
    •  Checking this box will index all site collections in the default SharePoint web application (port 80). Non-standard ports are not supported.
    •  This setting will also index users' My Sites and OneDrive for Business if they are under the default web application (can be excluded on the sub-sites page of the SharePoint wizard).
    •  Newly created site collections within the default web application will automatically be indexed by ViaWorks when this setting is enabled.
