Ayfie Locator is an enterprise search engine

  • An enterprise search engine is a search engine typically used by an organization to make data stored within the organization searchable for their staff and/or clients. This is different from for instance an Internet search engine used to search for information on the Internet.

  • Ayfie Locator has a large number of connectors

    • A connector is a software component that specializes in retrieving data from a specific type of a data source. For instance, an Exchange connector is a connector used to retrieve emails from Exchange email servers.

  • Ayfie Locator can handle a large number of data formats

    • Ayfie Locator uses converters to transform data from the data’s original format (for instance a pdf or a word document) to pure text before processing the data further.

The graphic below illustrates what we have described above. Ayfie Locator has a connector for each type of data source. The connectors retrieve the data and pass it on to converters that transform the data from its original format to a common text format that is then processed by other features such as the linguistic analyzer (Lingo), before being indexed. Once the data is indexed, the users may search for it by passing queries to Locator and getting search results back (as illustrated by the lady in the in the graphic below). The user may then use the Personal Assistant chat feature to make further inquires about the search result content.
