ayfie Locator Perfmon Counters

When Locator is installed, a number of counters are added for use with the Windows Performance Monitor (Perfmon).  These counters can help you analyze the health of your ayfie Locator server and diagnose certain problems that may arise.

To start Performance Monitor

Windows Server 2008 R2 – Press the Start button, then select Administrative Tools, Performance Monitor

Windows Server 2012 – Press the Windows key. Type “Administrative Tools” and click the icon.  Double-click the “Performance Monitor” item.

Alternatively, from an elevated command prompt or the “Run” dialog, type “Perfmon” and press enter.

To view the ayfie Locator Perfmon Counters

In the tree view explorer, expand the “Monitoring Tools” folder and select “Performance Monitor”.

Click the green “+” button.

Scroll down to the “V” section (the counters are listed alphabetically) and select the counter group that you wish.

Expand the group and select the counter you wish to add to the monitor.

The ayfie Locator Perfmon Counter Groups

Locator – Discovery

This group of counters gathers statistics on document discovery.  If these counters are zero, the fetch services may not be running.   

• Adds – Total documents discovered
• Adds Per Second – Documents discovered per second
• Deletes – Total documents that were previously discovered and no longer exist
• Deletes Per Second – Total documents that were previously discovered and no longer exist per second
• Errors – Total errors during discovery
• No Changes Per Second – Documents discovered without changes per second
• Updates – Total documents discovered with changes
• Updates Per Second – Documents discovered with changes per second

Locator – Fetch

This group of counters gathers statistics on document fetch and conversion.  If these counters are zero, the fetch services may not be running or no new documents require processing at this time.   

• Active Fetches – Number of fetches currently active
• Errors – Total errors during fetch
• Fetch Time (avg) – Mean time to fetch
• Fetches Per Second – Number of fetches per second

Locator – Index Builder

This group of counters gathers statistics on changes made to the index (additions, deletions and updates).   

• Adds – Total documents added to the index
• Adds Per Second – Documents added to the index per second
• Deletes – Total documents deleted from the index
• Deletes Per Second – Documents deleted per second
• Errors – Total errors during indexing
• Skips Per Second – Number of unchanged documents per second
• Updates – Total documents updated in the index
• Updates Per Second – Documents updated in the index per second
• Commits – Total number of index commits

  
Locator – Rest Service

This group of counters gathers statistics on interactions with the REST service (including search queries, search hits returned, refiners and other configuration elements.)   

• Errors – Total number of errors generated while searching

• Searches Per Second – Number of searches submitted in the last second

• Hits Returned (avg per search) – Mean number of search hits returned per search in the last second

• Hits Displayed (avg per search) – Mean number of search hits displayed per search in the last second

• Warnings (avg per search) – Mean number of warnings per search in the last second

• Refiners (avg per search) – Mean number of refiners per search in the last second

• Search Time (avg per search) – Mean time for search hits to be returned per search in the last second
