Microsoft Exchange Connector Data Sheet

The Exchange Connector can index Microsoft Exchange Server versions 2010, 2013 and 2016 as long as the Exchange Server is joined to the same domain as the Locator Server. The Exchange Connector can index data from Exchange Online within an Office 365 organization.

Supported Exchange Server Versions

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2010
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2013
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2016
  • Microsoft Exchange Online 

Limitations

  • Shared Mailboxes are not supported.
  • Delegation to an entire mailbox through the Exchange Admin Center and shared mailboxes are not supported.
  • Full Public Folder Security is not implemented.
  • Other Hosted Exchange Servers than Exchange Online is not supported. However, mailboxes in Hosted Exchange Servers can be indexed if certain conditions are met.

Prerequisites

  • A license for the Exchange Connector.
  • If Commvault Archive is to be indexed a license for the Commvault Archive is required.
  • For Exchange Online, if you plan to use the Logon to hosted Exchange via cloud credentials option, the Azure AD connector needs to be installed and configured with a connection to the same tenant

Supported Data Types

The connector supports indexing the following data types:

  • Mailboxes
  • Public Folder
    • The same data types as Mailboxes.
  • Global Address List
  • Archive Mailboxes
    • The same data types as Mailboxes.
  • Commvault Archive Mailboxes (Commvault Archive Provider is a third party plugin to the Exchange Connector)
    • The same data types as Mailboxes.

Crawl Methods

Full Crawl: The Exchange Connector supports scheduling periodic full scans of the source system.

Incremental Crawl: Not supported.

Push: The Exchange Connector supports push indexing from Exchange Server Mailboxes.

DocumentHandler

Required. Enables opening of items in Outlook.

Other information

Conditional Access:

Make sure that you don't have any conditional access rules which disable access to Office365 applications. Check if there is no restrictions for index user's location, device etc...
Also in 'Grand' tab under Access Control "MFA" shouldn't be checked, because connector doesn't support it.
